Children's Garden

Thanks to the warm weather the Children's garden is looking super. The image below was taken on 11th June.

The image below shows the handiwork of Matthew and Adam after our second event for the Children's garden on Sunday 13th May. During the hour they helped earth-up the potatoes, learn the importance of keeping weeds at bay, and planted seed for beetroot and lettuce. I think you'll agree that things are coming on nicely.

Our first children’s garden event took place on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and we were successful in our plans. Those who attended planted two rows of potatoes - a total of 12 plants – and two rows of onion sets. The children were taken through soil preparation, laying the seed potatoes and onions, applying some compost to the potatoes, watering and raking over of the potatoes.

These events will take place about once per month and members of the Friends will ensure that the plot is attended daily as the plants develop. The children’s plot is at the south west corner of the allotment area of the Garden.

Dates for the remaining events will be provided shortly.
